Every year I have been teaching, I have been forced to allocate funds for my service-learning classes to enrich the learning opportunities for my students and the lives of those we aim to make a difference for. Last year, I was fortunate enough to receive a grant through the Community Foundation. This grant gave my classes the resources needed to provide students with severe physical and/or mental disabilities the opportunity to feel a sense of belonging with their classmates. I feel as though both my class participants and those we benefited all felt a deep sense of community at school by forming these eye-opening connections and everlasting, positive memories. All of which was done using the Research and Design (R&D) process used in business and industry. Unfortunately, this idea will falter without financial assistance of some sort. I sincerely appreciate the time taken by the Newsline 9 to review my "Tools for Schools" program submission. Thank you for your time and consideration.
