WAUSAU (WAOW)--Kids from the Head start Program in Marathon County had something to smile about. On Thursday, they went to First Impressions in Wausau for free screenings on their pearly whites.

The dental team collaborates with Head Start to provide the kids with free exams and a fluoride varnish.

The Hygienists recommend that children start visiting a dentist's office six months after their first tooth comes in, or when then turn one years-old...whatever comes first.

Then, they should start regular visits.

"We recommend that they be seen by a dentist every six months so they are coming on a regular basis it's important so we can catch problems early and we can help Prevent problems before they start," says Dental Hygienist, Shannon Mudler.

The staff hopes the kids start dental habits early to maintain healthy mouths.
