GAO orders review of $3 billion Army contract

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- The U.S. Government Accountability Office wants the Army to re-evaluate its $3 billion contract award to the Oshkosh Corp.

Two companies that lost in bidding on the contract, BAE Systems and Navistar Inc., protested after Oshkosh Corp. won the contract in August. The companies, in part, questioned whether Oshkosh could make the vehicles at the price it quoted.

The GAO Monday upheld the companies protests, saying the Army's evaluation of the companies' bids was flawed.

The contract includes 23,000 military trucks and trailers. Production of the Medium Tactical Vehicles is scheduled to start in 2011 and is expected to employ about 2,000 people.

A call to Oshkosh Corp. seeking comment was not immediately returned.
