MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Marquette coach Buzz Williams says freshman forward Jeronne Maymon left the team because he was unhappy and his family was disappointed with his role.
Williams talked Thursday about the decision to release Maymon from his scholarship after Maymon completed his obligations with the Golden Eagles.
Maymon's departure puts Marquette (7-3) in a tough spot with the Big East Conference slate approaching. After injuries to Junior Cadougan and Chris Otule that will likely cost both the season, the Golden Eagles only have nine scholarship players available.
Maymon, a two-time Wisconsin AP player of the year from Madison, will not be allowed to transfer to any other Big East school or to Wisconsin.
