Economy voted Top Story of 2009


NEW YORK (WKOW) -- The nation's economic recovery tops the list of big news stories in 2009.

As voted upon by editors and news directors, the struggling economy, unemployment and American distress was the biggest story, according to the Associated Press poll.

The inauguration of the nation's first black president was number two, followed by the ongoing debate over health care legislation on Capitol Hill.

For the first year ever, AP also polled the general public on Facebook. Those responses varied a little, putting President Obama's inauguration at No. 1., followed by the economy and the death of Michael Jackson.
