Another death, more power outages

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Authorities are now linking at least 19 deaths on slippery roads to a Midwest snow and ice storm.

Driving became so dangerous that interstates were closed in Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Crews have been working to restore power to thousands of customers in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois and Iowa. An official says several small towns in western Iowa are in the dark.

To the East, gusty winds have combined with rain and ice to knock down trees and branches. About 40,000 people in the North Carolina mountains have been without power.

The National Weather Service warns says blizzards could hit parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin on into the evening. An ice storm warning is posted for parts of West Virginia and the Blue Ridge mountains in North Carolina and Virginia.
