'Central Wisconsin Show Choir Spectacular' to take place in Colby
by Natalie Sparacio
WAKE UP WISCONSIN (PRESS RELEASE)-- This will be our sixth annual Central Wisconsin Show Choir Spectacular hosted by the Colby Choir Coalition on January 9, 2010.
This is a great event if you like Broadway, great singing, dancing, costumes, and music!
Show Choir from all around central Wisconsin attend this festival. WE have had schools from Altoona, Janesville, Reedsburg, LaCrosse, Eau Claire, Milton, Marshfield, West Salem, Antigo, Mayville, Flambeau, De Pere, Parkview, Green Bay, Fall Creek, Neillsville areas and our own local community as well.
After each group performs, professional adjudicators critique the group off stage, which is very important for the rest of their competition season. We host a separate Solo/Duet competition throughout the day. The top performers from the Solo/Duet competition will then perform first in the evening performance SING-OFF. The top 6 groups with the most points from the entire day will compete in an evening SING-OFF Competition performance.
The Spectacular is a fun-filled day of competition with many awards to be received such as, Participation Plaques, Spirit Award, Best Male and Female Soloist along with the Best Instrumental Solo from the Solo/Duet competition, and the TOP 3 choirs in the Festival Division for the preliminary round. Best Choreography Ensemble, Best Vocal Ensemble, Best Instrumental Ensemble, Outstanding Male and Female Solo within the Show Choirs, and the TOP 6 Awards in the Evening SING-OFF competition.
The Colby Choir Coalition has annually competed at show choir festivals throughout Wisconsin. Under the direction of Mr. Kevin Spindler, the show choir has also performed in New York City, Florida and New Jersey.
The competitive show choirs start learning their music and choreography, from top choreographers in the summer to prepare for their season. A lot of thought and expense go into costuming, music and staging.
This is such a great experience for students and such a great way to promote the arts in central Wisconsin.
Competition begins at 9 a.m., award performances slated at 6 p.m.
