MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Writers from Milwaukee and Chicago have won a screenwriters' contest through the nonprofit Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum.
The screenplay, called "Fruit of the Tree," is about the life of lynching survivor Dr. James Cameron, who also founded America's Black Holocaust Museum in Milwaukee.
In a statement, the winners -- Dr. Fran Kaplan and Aaron Greer -- say they hope the recognition will increase the possibility Cameron's story will reach a wider audience.
Kaplan lives in Milwaukee and Greer is in Chicago. They will receive $1,000 and various prizes from co-sponsor, InkTip.com
They were selected by professional screenwriter Ken Rance. The Minneapolis native wrote the screenplay for the film "New in Town" starring Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr.
