Report: Stimulus created, saved 44,000 Wis. jobs

MADISON (AP) -- A new report claims stimulus money has created or saved tens of thousands of Wisconsin jobs.

A report from the White House Council of Economic Advisors claims the stimulus package has created or saved 44,000 jobs. Gov. Jim Doyle's office says that figure reflects jobs created or saved over the last nine months.

The report did not break down the jobs by sector. Doyle spokesman Adam Collins didn't immediately return a message Friday.

The report cautions the numbers are "speculative and uncertain."

The White House changed the methods it uses to count jobs credited to the stimulus in December after The Associated Press reported flaws in counts in October.
