KRONENWETTER (WAOW) - A gasoline spill in Kronenwetter is getting cleaned up and the village wants to let residents know they're on top of the situation.

On December 2nd, Magellan Midstream Partners LP spilled 35,000 gallons of gasoline at their holding site on Old Highway 51.  It was originally thought to be 25,000.

The spill came from a corroded half-inch underground pipe, that was fixed and later moved above ground.

The DNR waited almost two weeks to report the leak because it doesn't pose harm to Magellen's off-site neighbors and a winter storm pushed back a press release.

Kronenwetter is getting word out from the village, DNR and Magellen through its website.

Kronenwetter Village Administrator Blaine Oborn: "There's letters, maps on what they've done and the cleanup effort that's going underway. We're happy to provide that information to help the residents assess and know what's going on around them."

Magellen provides interstate piping and holding for gasoline used in cars and trucks.

The D-N-R says Marathon County is part of the 19 county west central region that records on average 250 spills a year.
