MINNEAPOLIS (PRESS RELEASE) - The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team moves up four spots in this week's D3hoops.com poll, overtaking the No. 20 spot in the rankings voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country.
The Pointers pushed their winning streak to eight games last week with victories over nonconference foe Edgewood, and conference victories over UW-Platteville and UW-Superior. Even more impressive is that all three of last week's wins came on the road, with over 1,000 miles traveled by week's end.
Illinois Wesleyan remains the nation's top-ranked women's team, receiving 20 first place votes as they remain one of two unbeaten teams in Division III. UW-River Falls and UW-Whitewater also appear in the top-25 poll, ranking just behind the Pointers in 21st and 22nd respectively.
The Pointers return to action this week when they host UW-Eau Claire in a rematch of last season's WIAC Tournament Championship game Wednesday, Jan. 20 before closing out the season series with the Titans of UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, Jan. 23 in Oshkosh. Game time Wednesday is set for 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
