Recovery zone bond bill moves ahead

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) -- State Legislators move forward in efforts to pass a recovery zone bond bill that would create 600 green jobs in Wood County.

Wednesday, legislators will vote on the bill after it cleared committees in both the senate and assembly yesterday.

Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point), Representative Louis Molepske (D-Stevens Point) and Representative Marlin Schneider (D-Wisconsin Rapids) co-authored Senate Bill 440.

They're proposing to pool federal recovery zone bond to fund shovel ready projects statewide like the proposed Energy Composites plant in Wisconsin Rapids.

Representative Molepske says the bill has a good chance to pass.

"We're going to have to work real hard with our friends from Dane County, Milwaukee, but I think at the end of the day we're going to get those wind turbines built and really expand on green jobs in our area."

This is a story Newsline 9 first brought you last week and we will continue to follow this bill and keep you updated on its progress.
