None hurt when homemade bomb explodes in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH (AP) -- Police have arrested a 25-year-old Oshkosh man after a homemade bomb exploded in an apartment basement in Oshkosh. No one was hurt.

Police say officers were called to the apartment shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday on reports of what sounded like gunshots.

The Northwestern newspaper of Oshkosh reports that in the basement officers found the remnants of a soda bottle, which was used for the so-called "MacGyver bomb."

The investigation led officers to the Oshkosh man, who doesn't live in the apartment building. Police questioned him at home and allegedly determined he made the bomb.

He was taken to the Winnebago County Jail. It's not clear why he made the bomb, nor is there an estimate of the damage to the basement.
