MADISON - Five student-athletes from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have been honored by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) for their efforts in their particular sport last week. Honored this week were Andrea Flease, Johnny Meo, Kathleen Folbrecht, Sam Davy and Lindsay Lukes.

Scoring a season high 24 points, junior guard Andrea Flease (New London) led the Pointer women's basketball team to a 68-51 win at No. 22-ranked UW-Whitewater on Jan. 27. She was 6-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc, and converted 10-of-13 attempts from the charity stripe. Flease also finished the day with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Facing UW-Superior on Jan. 30, Flease scored six points, while dishing out a game-high five assists in 25 minutes of playing time as the Pointers earned their 12th straight win and increase their lead in the WIAC standings to 1 ½ games.

Freshman forward Johnny Meo (Mundelein, IL) had two goals in two games during the week for the Pointer men's hockey team. Against No. 3-ranked St. Norbert College on Jan. 28, he tallied the lone Pointer goal in a 3-1 loss. In the second period, Meo flicked the puck off the St. Norbert keeper to score his fifth goal of the season. At UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 29, he tallied the third goal of the game midway through the second period in a 4-3 Pointer triumph.

Senior Kathleen Folbrecht (Jefferson) finished first and third in a pair of events at the Pointer Quad on Jan. 30 as a member of the Pointer women's indoor track & field team. She won the 400-meter dash with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 58.61. In the 200-meter dash, Folbrecht finished third with a time of 27.49.

Sophomore Sam Davy (Stevens Point) claimed three first-place finishes in a 124-119 dual meet victory over UW-La Crosse on Jan. 30 for the Pointer men's swimming & diving team. He finished first in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle with times of 47.20 and 1:46.09, respectively. Davy also anchored the first-place 400-yard medley relay team than finished with a time of 3:30.08.

For the Pointer women's swimming & diving team, senior Lindsay Lukes (Austin, MN) helped the Pointers to an impressive come-from-behind victory in the final relay. In a 132-111 dual meet victory over UW-La Crosse on Jan. 30, Lukes finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.39 and first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.61. However it was her performance swimming the last leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay that sealed the team win. With UW-La Crosse leading by three and only the 400-yard freestyle relay remaining, Lukes swam the fastest leg of the relay to win by a touch and claim the dual win for UW-Stevens Point.
