Woodrow "Woody" R. Timler

Woodrow "Woody" R. Timler, 96, Rothschild, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Saint Clare's Hospital, Weston.

He was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Waubeka, Wis., to the late John and Julia Timler. He married Valeria Bennett in 1936. Woodrow joined the Army's 4th Armored Division in April 1944 and fought in the World War II Battle of the Bulge. Following his service in the military, he worked as a mechanic for Zanders Service Station in Schofield for 45 years until his retirement in 1978.

Among his many interests he enjoyed fishing, playing dartball and polka dancing.

Survivors include his son, Robert (Mary) Timler, Hatley; two grandchildren Robert (Lynette) Timler, Weston, and Christine (Albert) Allan, Rothschild; and five great-grandchildren, Peyton, Dustin, Joe, Jessica and Josh. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, eight brothers and three sisters.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Peace United Church of Christ, 1524 Grand Ave., Schofield. The Rev. Larry Treece will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church.

Inurnment will be at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wausau. Military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of VFW Post No. 388 at the cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Linda and the staff of Cedar Creek Manor, Pastor Larry Treece and Peace United Church of Christ, and the staff of Saint Clare's Hospital for all the compassion, care and support given to Woody.

Brainard Funeral Home-Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston, is assisting the family with arrangements.
