SAINT PETER, Minn. - Three first period goals by the Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team proved to be too much for the Pointers to overcome on Tuesday evening, as the Gusties skated to a 4-3 victory against UW-Stevens Point at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
The host Gusties took an early 2-0 lead before Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN) answered with her 11th goal of the season, cutting the deficit in half, 2-1.
Gustavus responded with a goal late in the first period and added another at the start of the third, pushing the lead to 4-1.
The Pointers responded with a comeback attempt midway through the third when Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL) and Marvin tallied goals to make the score 4-3, but 10 third period saves by Gustavus goalie Emily Klatt kept the Pointers out of the goal the rest of the way, securing the win.
Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH) suffered the loss in net, giving up two goals in the first before making way for d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI), who tallied 31 saves including 13 in the third. Klatt tallied 20 saves earning the win.
The Pointers (11-8-2) return to action this weekend when they host Adrian College in the final regular season home series of the year. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at IceHawks Arena.
