DOC: Escaped prisoners from Stanley had help

STANLEY, Wis. (AP) -- A state corrections official says two prisoners who used forged documents in their release from the Stanley Correctional Institution had help from the outside.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Melissa Roberts says the fake documents the convicts used were falsified and mailed from outside the prison.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports one of the men, Jimmy Baldwin, was serving more than 70 years in prison for a 1994 gang-related murder in Milwaukee. Officials say the other man was supposed to be released from prison, but falsified the terms of his release.

Roberts tells the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram that once prison officials discovered the documents were falsified, the two men were arrested without incident.
