Improvements coming to Iverson Park

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- Leaders in Stevens Point are moving forward with long term plans to improve Iverson Park

The Mayor says budgeting for park improvements hasn't been a priority in past years. But, now that stimulus money is going toward road, water and sewer projects, money is freed up for other projects.

Mayor Andrew Halverson says, "We've got trails that are grown over, we've got retaining walls that were constructed all along the beautiful Plover River that need to be rebuilt. We've got slews and channels that need to be dredged throughout the park itself."

The mayor created a program over the next five years that will put $50,000 a year back into Iverson Park's renovations.

He hopes that this long-term plan will get the park back to where it was when it was first built in the 1930's.
