Pointer Freshman Named NCHA Athlete of the Week

SAINT PAUL, MINN. (February 16, 2010) – Freshman goalie Nick Graves (Hewitt, Wis. / Sioux City, USHL) of UW-Stevens Point has been named NCHA Player of the Week in the Men's Division, the league announced today.

Graves gave up just two goals while making 65 saves last weekend, helping land the #5 seed for the Pointers as they head into the playoffs. Graves took a 2-1 loss last Friday but kept UW-Stevens Point in the game with a chance to win. He made 27 total saves on the night, including ten in the third period.

On Saturday, with the Pointers needing a win to secure the No. 5 seed, Graves stopped all 36 shots UW-Stout dumped on goal. His second period was particularly busy, when the Blue Devils unleashed 22 shots on goal. Graves and UWSP won the game 4-0, setting up a rematch with UW-Stout in the first round of the playoffs.
