Meeting to address Kronenwetter gas spill

by Meg Bonacorsi

KRONENWETTER (WAOW) -- You may recall December's gas spill at a company called Magellan Midstream Partners back in December.

Well the village of Kronenwetter is holding a public meeting at 6 pm to discuss what happened.

Representatives from the company, Department of Natural Resources and the Marathon County Health Department.. along with village leaders are all on hand.

In addition to talking about what happened, they're giving an update on cleanup and will also hold a question and answer session.

Kronenwetter's Village Administrator says cleanup crews initially thought that they could keep the gas confined within the site, but that may not be the case.

Blain Oborn says,"We want a plan in place if it does go offsite and that helps the residents and it helps the whole flow of everything so there's not chaos or panic or anything."

The site is close to homes but the administrator isn't sure what health concerns, if any, could result from the leak.

According to the DNR, there are about a thousand spills reported in Wisconsin each year.

Stay tuned to and Newsline 9 for information on the outcome of the meeting.
