Milwaukee man accused of killings wants new lawyer

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A Milwaukee man accused of killing seven women over a 21-year period wants a new lawyer.

Walter E. Ellis said Friday his lawyer, Russell Jones, was sabotaging the case because the two have had little contact recently. They last spoke in December.

The prosecution objected, and Milwaukee County Judge Rebecca Dallet told Ellis that Jones was working hard and it was reasonable not to have much contact at this stage.

Jones said he was confident the two could work it out by the next court hearing on March 3.

The trial is due to start May 3, but could get delayed if Ellis insists on a new lawyer.

Mansa Miller, whose sister Tanya Miller was killed in 1986, says he thinks Ellis just wants to delay the trial.
