HATLEY (WAOW) -- A Marathon County deputy was parked on the median shoulder of STH 29 westbound, with his emergency lights activated, for a vehicle that had runoff into the ditch.
A second vehicle , driven by an 18 year old female, lost control and struck the rear of the occupied squad car at approximately 65 mph.
Aspirus medevac ground unit was called for the deputy, who sustained serious injury, and the driver of the passenger car that struck the squad was transported to St. Clare's Hospital, complaining of neck injury.
The passenger in the striking vehicle is not reported to be injured. STH 29 westbound was closed for about an hour for the safety of the emergency units on scene. The crash remains under investigation by Wisconsin State Patrol.
