Report: Uniform testing needed in Marathon County criminal system
by Bryon Graff
WAUSAU (WAOW) - A new report calls for a standard way to evaluate all those who pass through the Marathon County criminal justice system.
The National Institute of Corrections recommends they assess everyone.. whether they're in jail.. electronic monitoring or treatment programs.
The goal is to find the right intervention and eliminate repeat offenders.
Deb Hager/Deputy Marathon County Administrator: "Different kinds of treatments, when you know the needs of the population increase the likely hood that the person won't re offend so what we need to do is get really good understanding the needs of those individuals and then getting them into the program that would most likely result in them not re offending."
The public safety committee and the Health and Human services committee will review the findings.
If they agree.. new evaluation programs could be in place by the end of the year.
The National Institute of Corrections evaluated the Marathon County system on November 14-16, 2009.
