WAUSAU (WAOW) - The Wausau/Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitors Bureau's request for more hotel room tax money will be reviewed by Wausau's finance committee.
The city council was split six-six, with mayor Jim Tipple the deciding vote on sending it to finance.
The CVB was getting three cents on the dollar as a hotel room tax but that's when it supported Badger State Games.
The 2010 budget calls for two and a half cents but the CVB wants to stay at three while backing year-round sports ventures.
Darien Schaefer/CVB Sports Authority: "Now we have the opportunity to share the information they really need to make an informed decision. So we think we're going to be able to open some eyes and make them look at this proposal, this opportunity in a different light."
The CVB's budget request for 2-10 is $181,250.
Some on the city council believe more money directed toward the CVB would take away from established Wausau events.
