Judge denies venue change in sweetheart slayings

JEFFERSON (AP) -- A judge in Jefferson County has denied a motion to select jurors elsewhere for the trial of a man accused of killing two high school sweethearts in 1980.

The judge said he believes an impartial jury can be found in Jefferson County. Defense attorneys for Edward Edwards asked that a jury selected from another county be sequestered.

The 76-year-old Edwards is charged with killing Kelly Drew of Fort Atkinson and Tim Hack of Hebron. They disappeared after leaving a wedding reception at the Concord House in August 1980. Their bodies were found months later.

Edwards' trial is scheduled for June.
