DEVELOPING: Plans to bring Olive Garden to area move forward

by Colby Robertson

RIB MOUNTAIN (WAOW) -- It's been a rumor for years, but now plans are in the works to bring an Olive Garden to Rib Mountain.

Tom Radenz of REI Engineering says yes, the rumor is true. He says Olive Garden is working with the Town of Rib Mountain to build the popular chain restaurant. He says if everything goes smoothly, it would be up and open by the end of this year.

Tom Muellner, Chair of the Rib Mountain Planning Commission says that building an Olive Garden was on their agenda in last nights meeting.

Muellner says they requested a rezoning and sent a recommendation to the Town Board. Rezoning is the first step in beginning to develop.

Next Tuesday, Muellner says the Town Board will likely approve the rezoning. Once that occurs, the next step will be to implement a plan.

After that, it's a matter of giving them a permit and allowing them to proceed with construction.

When asked if Olive Garden is 100% coming to Rib Mountain Muellner says, "They can still say no. With the uncertainty of the economy there's an uncertainty in the developmental business. But, obviously there is a development corporation thinking about it enough to present a concept to the planning commission. that has involved them spending some money, so they're looking to proceed as far as we know."
