Pointer women's hockey team knocked out of playoffs after 2-0 loss to Superior
SUPERIOR(PRESS RELEASE)– The fourth-seeded Yellowjackets of UW-Superior struck midway through the third period and added an empty net goal late as they ended UW-Stevens Point women's hockey season on Saturday evening, downing the Pointers 2-0.
After 29 shots on goal by both teams in the first two periods all came up empty, it was Superior who struck at the 9:27 mark of the third period, as Teagan Cassan scored the even strength goal off a Brittany Dunkel assist giving the Yellowjackets the lead.
Late in the third, with d'Andra Phillips pulled in favor of the extra attacker, the Yellowjackets took control of the puck and Jodi Holland found the empty net, giving the ‘Jackets the 2-0 edge at the 16:20 mark of the third.
Superior goaltender Melissa Kunzelman stopped 26 shots on the night, 11 in the third period, to secure the shutout victory and ending the Pointers season.
The Pointers season ends at 13-11-3. UW-Superior improves to 17-8-2 overall and advances to the league's semi-final round.
