INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The Indiana Pacers have waived point guard Travis Diener, who played in only four games with Indiana this season because of a foot injury.
The 6-foot-1 guard had surgery after injuring the big toe of his left foot in late September.
Diener (DEE'-ner) had averaged 5.4 points and 3.0 assists in playing 121 games since Indiana signed the former Marquette star as a free agent in 2007. He also played two seasons in Orlando.
Pacers president Larry Bird said Diener was a tough player who should continue his career in the NBA. But Bird also said injuries had held back Diener with the Pacers.
