Brad Dolezal had one goal entering his junior season: finish the year undefeated and bring home his second state championship. Wtih an escape in the second overtime of his 145 pound championship match, he reached that goal and finished the season a perfect 51-0.
"Knowing that you're the best wrestler in Wisconsin at your weight class and knowing that no one ever beat you the whole year makes it that much better," Dolezal said.
"The championship match provided an all too familiar matchup of last year's title match where Dolezal lost 3-2 in overtime, but this time around it was Dolezal who made the big, late move.
"I knew I had the chance to get out in that last 30 and win it, so once I did that, 15 more seconds I had without being taken down and I knew I could do that."
With his win, Dolezal became the first two-time state champion in Marshfield history and was also named the Wisconsin Valley Conference's wrestler of the year.
"During the course of the season, he's one of the guys in the wrestling room who leads by example and he works hard on a day to day basis," said Marshfield head coach Don Lane. "Becoming that first two time state champion in Marshfield history is something nobody can ever take away from him."
With two state titles and an undefeated season checked off his list, Dolezal hopes to have his teammates by his side in next year, his final season with the Tigers.
"Same thing as this year, an undefeated season and keep pushing hard. Maybe get a few more guys down to state tournament."
