WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House is using the popular social media site Twitter to give its message more volume.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs is on Twitter as PressSec. His deputy, Bill Burton, also is part of the game as bburton44. Even the White House itself is releasing news and sharing favorable press clippings on the site.
White House officials say it's part of their strategy to use every platform possible to get out Obama's message. From tweets about where Obama watched hockey games to previews of Gibbs' daily briefings, the administration is using the Web to work around reporters.
Gibbs and Burton adopt a casual tone in their tweets, sharing inside-the-Beltway jokes and jargon with the public.
