2 ACORN employees face charges from '08 campaign

Posted:

MADISON (AP) -- Two voter registration workers for the activist group ACORN are among five Wisconsin residents charged with crimes stemming from the 2008 election.

A criminal complaint charges Maria Miles and Kevin Clancy with falsely procuring voter registration as a party to the crime.

The complaint says Miles and Clancy submitted multiple voter registration applications for the same individuals to meet voter registration quotas imposed by ACORN.

Neither could immediately be reached for comment, and it was unclear whether they had lawyers.

The others facing charges include a felon accused of illegally voting in the election, and a husband and wife accused of each voting twice.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced the charges the same day a front-page column in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel quoted a prosecutor criticizing police for largely ignoring voter fraud cases.
