Weather good for farmers

By Heather Sawaski

MERRILL (WAOW) -- Farmers might work their fields a little earlier this year. That's thanks to winter moisture and warmer weather.

According to an area Ag educator, even though we didn't see as much snow this winter, it kept the ground nice and moist, but didn't leave frost behind. But, he says, it's still early.

"It won't take long to use up the moisture that's here," said Tom Cadwallader. "but any moisture we do get from here on, whether it's snow or rain in the next few weeks, it's going to stick around."

Cadwallader said another good sign is that the maple syrup season is already underway, and it's about a week ahead of schedule.

Most crops are usually planted the beginning of May.
