Mosinee School Board approves teachers contract

MOSINEE (WAOW) - The board approves the contract the teachers ratified Monday.

It calls for a half percent pay raise in the first year, followed by a one percent increase in the second.

It's a combined salary-benefit increase of 4 percent then 4.5 percent in the second year.

The teachers had been working without a contract since July.

Jerry Rosso/Mosinee Superintendent: "We worked at this for 12 months and I think this is a fair deal for both sides. I don't think either side got exactly what they wanted out of it, certainly I wouldn't describe this as win-win in the negotiations. But I think we came down with a compromise that both of us could live with."

The contract also changes its wording regarding personal leave time.

Teachers will have fewer available days but are allowed more flexibility in how they use leave time for sickness, personal/emergency and funerals.

The board also accepts the retirement of principal Jim DeBroux, effective June 30th.

He'll be replaced by Ray Przekurat, who had been acting principal since July 21st. That's when DeBroux went on medical leave after a fall that left him partially paralyzed.  Przekurat will officially succeed DeBroux on July 1st.

Rosso: "We knew that he would likely be retiring in the next few years but we were hoping that he would do that in good health. And so it's certainly a sad situation in how it's come about. We will be spending sometime recognizing him in the future for his years of service."
