Republican Rhoades retiring from Assembly

MADISON (AP) -- Republican state Rep. Kitty Rhoades of Hudson is retiring from the Wisconsin Assembly after serving 12 years.

Rhoades made the announcement in a letter to supporters sent on Wednesday.

Rhoades is the seventh Republican and ninth Assembly member overall to announce they will not be seeking another term. Two Republicans and one Democrat in the state Senate are also not running for re-election.

Democrats hold a 52-46 majority in the Assembly and an 18-15 majority in the Senate.

The 58-year-old Rhoades was first elected in 1998. When Republicans were in the majority, she served as co-chair of the powerful Joint Finance Committee but lost that position last year when Democrats won majority control of the Assembly.
