MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senior forward Marvin Paine scored eight of his game-high 15 points during a 20-6 run in the second half, and Milwaukee Marquette rallied past fourth-ranked Milwaukee Hamilton 48-43 Thursday night.
Hamilton (20-4) led 32-22 in the WIAA Division 1 state quarterfinal boys basketball game with 2:41 left in the third quarter. But Paine sparked the huge comeback as the Hilltoppers (19-8) won their WIAA state debut.
Senior Mark Haas and juniors Phil O'Connor and John Kopriva each had four points in the surge for Marquette, which will play Hartland Arrowhead or Verona in a state semifinal Friday night.
Kopriva's reverse layup gave the Hilltoppers a 42-38 lead with 4:25 to go.
The Wildcats, who got 13 points from Darnell Harris and 12 from Elgin Cook, went ahead 43-42. But Paine hit a 3-pointer and Marquette made three of four free throws in the final 33 seconds to seal the victory.
