MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senior guard Vander Blue led four players in double figures with 14 points as Madison Memorial opened defense of its WIAA Division 1 boys basketball state championship with a 58-41 victory over Neenah in a state quarterfinal Thursday at the Kohl Center.
Blue, a Marquette recruit, was 6-for-9 from the field and added a team-high six rebounds for the third-ranked Spartans (22-4), who advance to play Appleton East (22-5) in a state semifinal at 6:35 p.m. Friday.
Memorial, looking to become the first repeat Division 1 champions since Oshkosh West in 2006 and 2007, shot 58.5 percent and outrebounded the Rockets 30-19.
Tre' Burnette and Junior Lomomba each scored 11 points for the Spartans, and Miles Chamberlain added 10 points.
Josh Hopfensberger had 16 points for Neenah, which was making its 25th state appearance but first since 2000.
