MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Senior guard Vander Blue led four players in double figures with 14 points as Madison Memorial opened defense of its WIAA Division 1 boys basketball state championship with a 58-41 victory over Neenah in a state quarterfinal Thursday at the Kohl Center.

Blue, a Marquette recruit, was 6-for-9 from the field and added a team-high six rebounds for the third-ranked Spartans (22-4), who advance to play Appleton East (22-5) in a state semifinal at 6:35 p.m. Friday.

Memorial, looking to become the first repeat Division 1 champions since Oshkosh West in 2006 and 2007, shot 58.5 percent and outrebounded the Rockets 30-19.

Tre' Burnette and Junior Lomomba each scored 11 points for the Spartans, and Miles Chamberlain added 10 points.
