Songs from south of the border

By Heather Sawaski

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Kids in Wausau took a musical journey south of the border on Saturday.

As part of the Woodson Art Museum's exhibit Las Artes de Mexico, a bilingual musician and storyteller spent the afternoon entertaining a young crowd.

Clare Norell of Madison performs around the country. She invites kids and their parents to cross the language barrier, through songs and stories.

"I do these performances because I like to get kids who don't speak a lot of Spanish to try speaking it more," Norell explained. "I like to make it comfortable for them to do that. And I like to do presentations with kids who do speak Spanish and don't speak a lot of English."

The musician says it's easier for kids to learn through song, rather than just spoken word.

Las Artes de Mexico continues at the Woodson Art Museum until April 11th.
