PHOENIX (AP) -- Catcher Matt Treanor has been traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Texas Rangers for infielder Ray Olmedo in a swap of players at spring training on minor league contracts.
Treanor was competing for the backup spot behind Gregg Zaun with George Kottaras. The 34-year-old was released by Florida at the end of the 2008 season, spent last year with Detroit and appeared in just four games after a right hip strain caused by a bone spur.
Olmedo spent last year at Tampa Bay's Triple-A Durham farm team. The 27-year-old hasn't been in the major leagues since 2007 with Toronto.
