PRESS RELEASE: Merrill Manufacturing union strikes after rejecting labor agreement

MERRILL (PRESS RELEASE)--Merrill Manufacturing Corporation, a Wisconsin manufacturer of wire form  products, announced today that the union representing its production employees began a strike over contract terms on March 23, 20`0.  Approximately 32 of the Company's 58 production employees have joined the strike.

The Company and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, United Lodge No. 2362, have been negotiating since November 2009 for a successor to the labor agreement that expired on December 20, 2009.  Since December 2009, the parties have negotiated with the assistance of a mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.  During the negotiations, the Union's membership twice rejected complete tentative agreements that it's negotiating committee reached with the Company, which would have averted a strike.

Patrick Taylor, President of Merrill Manufacturing Corporation, commented on the work stoppage and explained that the Company intends to continue full operations:

"We care very much about our employees and the Merrill community at large.  We are disappointed that a majority of the Union's membership does not recognize the economic realities of the 21st Century marketplace that require companies to make necessary adjustments in order to remain competitive, and, ultimately, to remain in business.  During the work stoppage, the Company will continue its operations uninterrupted through the use of management personnel, employees that have decided not to strike, and replacement workers if necessary.  We remain hopeful that the work stoppage will end soon because it is important that we continue to work together with employees to ensure that the Company and community succeed during these difficult economic times.  Our approach to negotiations has been to try to find a way to blend the needs of the Company and be fair to all employees who deserve to have a future with a Company that has almost 100 years of history with our community."

Merrill Manufacturing has been in the business of manufacturing custom wire form products since 1916 and is located in Merrill, Wisconsin.   Further information about the Company can be obtained on its website at:
