LINCOLN COUNTY (WAOW)-- What started as a report of a grass fire led to a barn fire, which eventually destroyed at least two structures on County Road J in the Town of Russell.
The first 911 call was reported at 3:45 PM on Thursday, with reports of a fire on County Road J near Yanda Road. When firefighters from the Town of Russell and the DNR arrived on the scene, they called for more aid as the fire spread to other buildings, including a large barn.
The Tomahawk Fire Department, a tanker truck, the Town of Pine River Fire Department, and Merrill Fire Department were called to the fire.
The Counties Rec Deputy used his pickup truck to ferry firefighters from the staging area to where they were needed to battle the blaze.
At least three firefighters required medical treatment during the fire, two of which suffered smoke inhalation. Ambulances from Merrill and Tomahawk transported the injured to the Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill for treatment of non life threatening injuries.
According to one of the Deputies on the scene, the fire did cause damage to the home, but firefighters from the Town of Russell were able to put out the blaze before the building was destroyed.
Crews were on the scene for almost four hours.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
