Milwaukee Pug Fest to be held in May

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee will soon hold the nation's largest gathering of pugs.

Milwaukee Pug Fest coordinator Rick Kopaczewski (kahp-AH'-ches-skee) says he expects more than 1,100 pugs for the event May 16 at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex in Franklin.

The sixth-annual event will benefit pug rescue groups across the U.S. and help pay for medical and dental bills for rescued pugs. It will also include demonstrations, guest speakers, vendors, pug costume contests, races and a blessing of the pugs.

Kopaczewski expects this year to be the most popular yet. He says they have sold tickets to people around the nation and already booked more hotel rooms than last year.

Visitors are allowed to bring their own pugs, Boston terriers and French bulldogs.
