(WAOW)- Spring sports are now underway in Central Wisconsin as many teams have even taken the field for their first games of the new season.
A couple local athletes got a head start though back in December.
Granton pitcher Dustin Dix and teammate James Helgeson were two of only 50 players invited to play with the Coast to Coast baseball program.
The duo traveled to Arizona to play against teams from different cultures and work with top scouts and college coaches at a Major League Baseball training complex
Both players feel fortunate to have gotten the opportunity.
"Players are a lot more advanced because they don't get snow like we do here and they're playing all year round," said Granton pitcher Dustin Dix. "It was just pretty cool to see different cultures and how they react and just hang out with a bunch of different guys I've never known."
"It was definitely a lifetime experience," said Granton first baseman James Helgeson. "Got to meet a lot of new people, a lot of talent I guess you could say, a lot of stuff we hadn't seen before."
