MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Brewers used American League rules to their advantage.
Designated hitter Jody Gerut had a two-run single in a three-run second inning to lead Milwaukee to a 3-2 exhibition victory over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
Austin Jackson and Brandon Inge hit solo home runs off Brewers starter Doug Davis to start the first and second innings.
Milwaukee has played in the National League since 1998. The Brewers used the DH in the AL from 1973-1997 before the switch.
Brewers manager Ken Macha agreed to use the DH on Friday in an effort to get extra bats for Gerut in case Jim Edmonds' hamstring isn't better by the opener Monday.
