WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The City of Wausau begins its emergency warning system testing Monday.
The sirens will sound at 1:15 every Monday afternoon until October 1st.
If there are severe weather warnings, the scheduled test will be postponed so there isn't confusion between a test and actual warning.
The purpose of the weekly test is to make sure the entire system is working properly.
Any problems can then be repaired.
City leaders understand that the sirens can be a nuisance but say they are one of the most effective ways to provide emergency warnings.
