(WAOW) - A friend to many of us along the WIAA State Basketball Network died while visiting family in Florida.

This was confirmed by Wausau Trinity Lutheran Church Minister Gary Schultz, who is a friend of the Kerr family.

Kerr worked as our statistician for each and every boys and girls state basketball games, dating back 32 years, missing only one tournament for a family vacation.  He attended every year, but that one, since 1950.

He used to live in Wausau and taught at Merrill High School before moving back to his hometown of Poynette.

He's a former commissioner of the Wisconsin Valley, Marawood and Central Wisconsin Conferences.

The Capital Times just ran a story on him two weeks ago.  In it, Don said one of his biggest joys was seeing his son, Jim, play for Wausau West in the 1981 state tournament.

Don was 74 years old. He's survived by his wife Judy and five children.  They had another son who is deceased.
