MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Veteran righthander Jeff Suppan will get a shot as the Milwaukee Brewers' No. 5 starter.
Brewers manager Ken Macha says Suppan will make a rehabilitation start Friday for the team's Class A affiliate in Appleton, Wis. Barring an injury setback, Suppan then is expected to make a start during the Brewers' series in Chicago next week.
Suppan began the season on the disabled list with cervical disk pain in his neck.
Although Suppan gets first crack at the final spot in the Brewers' rotation, it won't necessarily be his to keep if he doesn't produce. Macha said the team could use "a number of" fifth starters this season. Suppan was 7-12 with a 5.29 ERA last season.
