Local non profit offers advice for couples who've been touched by cancer

WAKE UP WISCONSIN (WAOW)-- It's called www.thinkmarriage.org and it's a secular non-profit organization pro-actively improving relationships through workshops and classes both in person and online. They want our community to reap the benefits 20 years of social science has proven. And that is, as a whole, we are happier, healthier and wealthier when we know how to build healthy relationships and make them last.
On May 7th and 8th they are bringing a special event for couple's touched by cancer. According to organizers, there were no marriage events specifically for couple's to explore how cancer has affected their relationship, that offered a fun, light atmosphere. By focusing solely on couple's facing cancer they create a comfortable environment for everyone, where they feel like they can relax because they are in the presence of those that are facing similar challenges. Why Wausau? Because last year they found couple's came from every end of the state, and a central location allows for that.
The program called Family Wellness to teach couples some communication skills. They learn to 'know what they want' so they can respectfully 'say what they want' and significantly improve the changes of 'getting what they want.' This is all wrapped into entertainment, an elegant dinner, and opportunities for socializing.
