PRESS RELEASE: Fatal Weston accident

WESTON (PRESS RELEASE)--On 04-11-10 at 9:06 p.m. Everest Metro Police officers and a Marathon County sheriff's Deputy responded to a report of an accident on Schofield Ave. approximately four tenths of a mile east of County Highway J.

The vehicle, a 2004 Honda Pilot, was traveling eastbound on Schofield Ave., traveled onto the right shoulder of the roadway, struck a bridge railing, rolled over and came to rest just north of the roadway. The driver was ejected from the vehicle through the passenger side window and was found lying adjacent to the roadway. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident and there were no passengers in the vehicle. Based on the initial investigation, it appears that the driver was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Timothy L. Fehlandt, 52 years of age with an address in Ringle. Mr. Fehlandt was pronounced dead at the scene by Medical Examiner Jean Finley at 9:52pm. The cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma to the head and neck with a cervical spine fracture.

Alcohol is suspected of being a factor in this crash and blood taken by the Medical Examiner should provide BAC results in approximately 7-10 days. The victim had left a tavern in Weston just prior to the accident and witnesses at the tavern provided statements indicating the deceased had been drinking alcoholic beverages at the establishment and appeared to be intoxicated.
