WAUSAU (WAOW) - Four sites around Wausau earn their way into an official piece of the city's history.  The Wausau City Council approves four historic landmarks.

One of them is the very place the council does its work.

City Hall earns the designation, as well as Barker Stewart Island, the Marathon Park Big Kitchen and Stone Entrance structures and Pleasant View Park Stone Shelter.

They each represent a special part of the city's heritage.

Gary Gisselman/Wausau Historical Preservation Commission: "Maybe because of the people that lived in these. Or because of the red granite for instance at Marathon Park or Barker Stewart Island as one of the last remnants of the sawmills along the Wisconsin River. It's kind of important that way."

A historical commission first designated landmarks back in 1975.

It includes churches, buildings and parks.
