Lombardi medallion created for sports conference

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- There's a trophy, street and middle school named after Vince Lombardi. Now there's a medallion with his likeness on it.

It will be awarded at a sports conference sponsored by the Green Bay Packers and St. Norbert College called "A Mirror of Our Culture: Sport and Society in America" from May 26-28.

St. Norbert graphic artist, Nick Patton, is a Packers' fan and says it was intimidating and an honor to illustrate Lombardi.

The image is a composite of hair from one photo, head shape from another photo and profile from another.

The Roman coin look and lettering harken to Lombardi's Italian heritage. A laurel on his head is a symbol of praise.

It was approved by Lombardi's family, but it's only for the conference and not for sale.
